LG Dishwasher AE Error Code

LG says AE (E1 on some models) means a leak inside the dishwasher has tripped the float switch in the base. Also shown as E1 on some models.

I am Ramez, owner of R3M Appliance Repair in Rockwall, TX. Below is what this code means, what you can safely try before calling anyone, and the point where it is time to call. If you are in the Rockwall area and want it handled today: (469) 446-4242.

Step 1

What usually causes AE

Most common first. In my experience the first one or two on this list account for most LG AE calls.

  1. 1. Dishwasher not level, so water pools to one side
  2. 2. Dirty or damaged door gasket
  3. 3. Excess suds from the wrong detergent or too much of it
  4. 4. Clogged spray arms throwing water at the door
  5. 5. Internal hose, sump or pump seal leak
Step 2

What to try before you call

Safe things a homeowner can do. Unplug the dishwasher before reaching into anything.

  1. Turn the dishwasher off at the breaker and check it with a level. Adjust the legs.
  2. Clean the door gasket and look for tears.
  3. Remove and rinse the spray arms.
  4. Use only dishwasher detergent filled to the dispenser line, then remove the kickplate, sponge out the base and let it dry 24 to 48 hours before resetting.
Step 3

When to stop and call a technician

The base fills with water again after drying and leveling, because an internal part is leaking. At that point the fix is usually a part, and guessing at parts gets expensive fast. I test first, then quote, so you only pay for what is actually broken.

Questions

LG AE questions

How do I clear the AE code on my LG dishwasher?

Fix the cause first, then unplug the dishwasher (or turn it off at the breaker) for about a minute and restart. The code clears once the dishwasher no longer sees the problem. If it comes right back, the cause is still there.

Is AE the same as E1?

Yes. LG uses different displays on different model years, so the same problem shows up as AE on some machines and E1 on others. The fix is the same.

Is a LG dishwasher with a AE error worth repairing?

Usually yes. Door gasket and similar parts cost a fraction of a new dishwasher. I tell you the price before any work starts, and if a repair is not worth it I say so.

Can you come out today for a LG AE error in Rockwall?

Most days, yes. I carry common LG parts on the truck, so many AE repairs are done in one visit. Call or text (469) 446-4242 with your model number.
