A fridge that is warming up is the one call I move to the front of the line. Food is on the clock. I am Ramez, owner of R3M Appliance Repair, and I fix refrigerators in Rockwall and the cities around it, usually the same day you call. Most of the time it is one failed part and the unit has years left in it.
The problems I see most, what usually causes them, and how I fix them.
Usual cause: Failed evaporator fan, defrost heater or defrost thermostat. Frost builds on the coil and air stops moving.
What I do: I clear the frost, test the defrost circuit and replace the failed part. Same-day in most cases.
Usual cause: Dirty condenser coils, a dead condenser fan, a failed start relay or, less often, the compressor.
What I do: Coils and fans are quick. If it is the compressor I tell you the real cost before anything is touched.
Usual cause: Condenser coils packed with dust or pet hair, or a compressor start relay clicking on and off.
What I do: Coil cleaning and a relay are both under an hour.
Usual cause: Clogged defrost drain, cracked water line to the ice maker, or a failed door gasket.
What I do: Drain clears, line and gasket replacements done on the spot.
Usual cause: Water inlet valve, frozen fill tube or the ice maker assembly itself.
What I do: See the ice maker page, or call and I will sort it in the same visit.
I start with the coils and fans because that is where most refrigerator problems live, then check the defrost system and controls. You get a clear price before any part goes in. If the fix is not worth it, I say so.
A refrigerator under about 12 years old with a fan, coil, defrost or relay problem is almost always worth repairing. Sealed-system failures on a budget unit past ten years usually are not, and I will tell you that on the phone if the symptoms point that way.
